TEACHING DESIGNS

I love teaching!!  To see my students developing their skills makes me feel so good.

Most of my students are far better stitchers than I.  When I develop a teaching design

there are many things I consider - good design and colour balance are a must!  However,

I make a list of stitches that I want to include to make sure the student or client is being

challenged.  The design is worked over and over until the balance works with the stitches

chosen and the colours make the stitches sing!  The next consideration are the fibres

that are going to be used - I choose texture and of course colour plays a big role -

especially if I am overlaying colours or mixing more than one fibre in a stitch.  I play and

play until I am satisfied.  Yes, I do the whole process from idea to the final stitch.  The

only thing I do not do, is the framing or finishing (in most cases).   I put in and take out

and try something different if the results are not up to my standard.  Yes, I have fun - I

love doing the charting and often struggle with the instructions.  I have good people that

help me make my work look so good and I thank them!!

My designs have all been tested before I teach them for a guild or group or before they

are available in a store.

We work hard to catch all the errors, however some errors do slip through and, if you find

one, please let me know as I can generally fix it quickly.  I can also correct it on my

Correction page.

If I am teaching at a store I will provide the list of supplies required for the

course.

Student supplies such as stretcher bars, brass tacks, embroidery scissors, laying

tool are extra.

The teaching designs are not sold outside of the classroom.

So do follow me through my teaching designs as I would love to come to your shop,

Seminar, or guild and share my knowledge.

MY WAY

The focus of this course is to offer students an

opportunity to alter the appearance of an original design.

Suggested options are provided in many sections. These

choices can be different stitches, colours, opposite colour

value directions and fibres.

The model features a neutral border with two distinct

colour harmonies A (green) and B (mulberry). For the

third family C, I expanded the number of values included

in the colour range of the neutral border. Wonderful

results can be achieved through numerous colour

combinations. You are encouraged to use your creativity

and individuality in your selections. Record the colours in

the space provided. At the back of the book  is an

alternative square “G”. You can place the squares in any

order. There are a large variety of stitches and stitch

techniques including a large Rococo Stitch, Waffle,

Walneto, Crescent Stitch, Spider Stitch Variation, Slanted

Florentine as well as Flat Stitch, Basketweave, Oblong

Cross Stitch, Rice Stitch, Smyrna Stitch, Ray Stitch and

many more!

No Kit.
Students are requested to have the border done before class.

Supplies such as stretcher bars, embroi
dery scissors, laying tool are required.

ANALOGOUS FUSION

The use of five colours lying side by side on the colour wheel

evokes a sense of mystery as we travel through the five

panels. The fusion of stitches, colours and fibres leads the eye

through the design encouraging the viewer to see more.

ThreadworX overdyed floss and braids are combined with

perle cotton, silk, rayon, nylon and metallic threads. The

addition of glass beads and pearls provide the finishing touch.

Worked on #18 Mono Canvas, the stitch techniques include

the fusion of a mottled background, layered and laid work and

a variety of other stitches. Large charts and step-by-step

instructions are included.

No Kit. Students are requested to have the border done before class.

Supplies such as stretcher bars or roller frame, embroidery scissors, laying tool are required.
