TEACHING DESIGNS

I love teaching!!  To see my students developing their skills makes me feel so good. Most of my students are far better stitchers than I

When I develop a teaching design
here are many things I consider:

  •  good design and balance
  • colour balance are a must!  ,
  • I make a list of stitches that I want to include to challenge student
  •  The next consideration is the fibres and the texture options to compliment the design.
  • What happens if you overlay the fibres when achieving pleasing colour play.

The design is worked over and over until the balance works with the stitches chosen

and the colours to make the stitches sing!  I adore texture and colour.  I play and

play until I am satisfied.  Yes, I do the whole process from idea to the final stitch.  The

only things I do not do, are the framing and in most cases the finishing.  I put in and take

out and try something different if the results are not up to my standard.  Yes, I have fun - I

love doing the charting but often struggle with the instructions.  I have good people who

help me make my work look so good and I thank them!!

My designs have all been tested before I teach them for a guild or group or before they

are available in a store.

We work hard to catch all the errors, however some errors do slip through and, if you find

one, please let me know as I can generally fix it quickly.  I can also correct it on my

Correction page (elsewhere on this website).

If I am teaching at a store I will provide the list of supplies required for the

course.  Student supplies such as stretcher bars, brass tacks, embroidery scissors, laying

tool are extra.

The teaching designs are not sold outside of the classroom.

So do follow me through my teaching designs as I would love to come to your shop,

Seminar, or guild and share my knowledge.  I am willing to teach for groups on line through Zoom..

MY WAY

The focus of this course is to offer students an

opportunity to alter the appearance of an original design.

Suggested options are provided in many sections.

choices include changing stitches and/or colours,

reversing colour value directions and changing fibres.

The model features a neutral border with two distinct

colour harmonies: A (green) and B (mulberry). For the

third family C, I expanded the number of values included

in the colour range of the neutral border. Wonderful

results can be achieved through numerous colour

combinations. You are encouraged to use your creativity

and individuality in your selections. Record the colours in

the space provided. At the back of the book is an

alternative square, ā€œGā€. You can place the squares in any

order. There are a large variety of stitches and stitch

techniques including a large Rococo Stitch, Waffle,

Walneto, Crescent Stitch, Spider Stitch Variation, Slanted

Florentine as well as Flat Stitch, Basketweave, Oblong

Cross Stitch, Rice Stitch, Smyrna Stitch, Ray Stitch and

many more!

No Kit.
Students are requested to have the border done before class.

Supplies such as stretcher bars, embroi
dery scissors, laying tool are required.

FLOWING

FRIENDSHIPS

Come discover this inspiring design of shared friendship

between three people. The flowing ribbon entwines their

relationships. Common colours and stitches bind them

together. Distinct colours and stitches in each of the sections

represent individuality that shines through, offering each

personality.  A large variety of fibres and stitches (many

worked on the diagonal) are illuminating for the intermediate to

advanced stitcher. Diverse techniques such as beading,

attaching and enhancing cording, covering unusual objects

plus using a laying tool.

A supply page will be provided so the student can purchase

their own supplies for their own journey in colour.
